There’s no mistaking that Swansea Half Marathon is one of the fastest road races in the country, and there’s no better proof than records being broken year-on-year!
This year, siblings; Isaac, Aidan & Eva took on the challenge not only to complete it together but to do it in the world’s fastest time!
Re-wind back to the siblings childhood, they were always a competitive bunch, from school sports days to National running events they were supported by parents and supported each other. The children would receive the Guinness World Records book for Christmas, and often wondered what it would be like to break a record. That day arrived when the three of them came together, along with mum Corrinna on 9th June 2024 at the Swansea University Swansea Half Marathon.
After agreeing to set their sights on breaking the Guinness World Record, the family used their WhatsApp group and Strava to encourage and motivate one another and after months of training and remaining committed to their goal they not only achieved the title of The fastest half marathon run by three siblings (mixed) in 5 hr 34 min 47 sec, but also achieved a 2nd record for the fastest half marathon run by a mother and three children.
Mum Corrinna said:
“The children were very competitive growing up, both Eva and Aidan ran for the county. Eva was the county cross country champion for 9 consecutive years and Aidan is now a keen cyclist, recently winning the Staffordshire and Shropshire league. We are all spread out across the UK but still manage to support each other at events. All the children are extremely supportive, of each other and travel a long way to meet up a lot as we are very close, but there’s always a run or bike ride involved!”
“I think it’s them supporting each other in sporting events from so young that has brought about us all wanting to attempt a Guinness world record together and it’s a genuine honour to have achieved this at Swansea this year!”
But…that’s not the end of the story for the family as they plan to beat their record again next year!
Congratulations to the Wade family and your incredible achievement…we’ll be watching to see what you achieve next!
